Language requirements | English Applicants must prove their English language knowledge. Other requirements | Successful pass of entrance examination where applicants will be invited to an interview via Skype. Applicants are obligated to upload: 2) Filled out Curriculum Vitae in Europass format In the entrance interviews both the novelty and topicality of the submitted doctoral thesis, the quality of the developed dissertation application, and the applicant’s previous achievements and motivation are assessed. Previous achievements include master’s study results, work related to historical research, publications and participation in scientific conferences. |

Overview
The joint doctoral study programme “History and Archaeology” of the University of Latvia and Daugavpils University is the best opportunity to devote yourself to historical science and engage in research in one of the sub-disciplines of history – archaeology, Latvian or world history in different periods (the Middle Ages, early modern and modern times, modern times and contemporary history), choosing a wide variety of research topics, or in one of the auxiliary disciplines of history (numismatics, heraldry, genealogy, etc.). As a result of the studies, there is an opportunity to obtain a Doctor of Science degree in Humanities and the Arts, thus achieving respectable quality as a scientist and can successfully solve a wide variety of puzzles and questions posed by history and understand the processes of social development.
Career opportunities
The doctoral degree will allow to achieve the highest degree as a university lecturer, as well as to work in research in a variety of research institutions, as well as in archives, museums and libraries. The experience gained will be an additional advantage when applying for various positions in public administration, diplomatic service, mass media.
