Deposit | €500 one-time A one-time payment for students coming from third countries outside the EU/EEA is to be paid in full together with the full-year tuition fee payable upon arrival. Entry qualification | Undergraduate diploma (or higher) In health care, medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, psychology, sociology, natural sciences, environmental sciences, food sciences, or other comparable higher education. Admission criteria: The average grade in study courses must be 60% of the maximum. The entry qualification documents are accepted in the following languages: English / Latvian. Often you can get a suitable transcript from your school. If this is not the case, you will need official translations along with verified copies of the original. Applicants must upload education documents in original language, as well as translations into English. Diplomas and transcripts issued outside EU must be legalized with a legalization stamp or Apostille. Overview
The academic Master’s study program “Epidemiology and Medical Statistics” is intended to provide highly qualified specialists in epidemiology and medical statistics at regional, national and international level, who will understand and be able to develop epidemiological, medical, and sociological research methodology, to perform sophisticated statistical analyses of obtained data, and interpret observed results based on newest international knowledge and according to internationally accepted standards.
The aim of the programme is to provide highly qualified epidemiology and medical statistics specialists for the Latvian, Baltic, and other health systems at regional, national and international levels who are familiar with and develop epidemiological and other research methodology, are able to analyze sophisticated data and interpret results based on the latest international knowledge and standards.
The programme has been developed within the framework of the project “Design of Internationally Competitive Study Programmes Promoting the Development of the National Economy of Latvia at the University of Latvia” (project No. 8.2.1.0 / 18 / A / 015).
Programme structure
Students will acquire theoretical and practical knowledge in competence to collect healthcare data, including large volumes of administratively generated and digital data in accordance with internationally accepted requirements.
They will learn different methods of statistical processing of data, SPSS, Stata, SAS, R, Prisma, GPower, as well as specific epidemiology software DAGitti and MedCalc.
Students will learn how to create/develop medical, public health and sociology related research in line with international standards, which is vital for collecting country’s resultative and other statistical indicators and comparing them with EU and other regions of the world.
Career opportunities
Completion of this study programme will provide graduates with opportunities to work in a wide range of organizations, including research institutions, medical institutions, ministries (eg, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development, Ministry of Agriculture) and institutions. Graduates will have the opportunity to pursue a PhD in the Faculty of Medicine, as well as PhD programmes in other countries.
