The application fee consists of a 100 € registration fee and a 41 € payment for education documents recognition from the Academic Information centre of Latvia.
Application fee is non-refundable and must be paid after recieving an invoice from the UL
A one-time payment for students coming from outside the EU/EEA to be payed in full along with the first semester payment upon arrival. The deposit is intendend to cover possible immigration expenses and payed back upon request after graduation.
High school / secondary education (or higher)
Applicants applying for undergraduate degree studies are required to have completed their secondary/high school education.
The entry qualification documents are accepted in the following languages: English / Latvian.
Often you can get a suitable transcript from your school. If this is not the case, you will need official translations along with verified copies of the original.
Applicants must upload education documents in original language, as well as translations into English.
You must take the original entry qualification documents along with you when you finally go to the university.
Applicants must prove their English and German (if choosing a second qualification – Teacher of German) language knowledge. University accepts the following international language tests:
University can provide English language test for additional payment (97.50 EUR)
Applicants whose native language is English or German or previous education is obtained in English or German are exempt from this requirement (except citizens of India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh and Pakistan).
Entrance examination – written part and Skype interview on motivation.
During the first year of studies students must achieve at least level B1 in the Latvian Language to be successful in further studies.
Having successfully mastered the programme, students acquire knowledge and skills that are necessary for today’s teacher to integrate successfully and remain competitive in the constantly changing labour market. During the studies students acquire courses of pedagogy, psychology, English/German language courses and phonetics to improve their spoken, written and academic language skills; they study literature, geography, culture and history of English/German speaking countries as well as the use of modern technologies in the studies of foreign language. Special attention is paid to teacher’s research activities and teaching practices at schools under the supervision of experienced mentors and the support of university academic staff.
The teachers of visual art study the history of art; they acquire the basics of drawing and painting and courses in methods of teaching visual art.
Study period and classes time
The full – time degree programme covers four academic years. Classes are mainly organized from 8.30 am till 6pm on working days.
The programme offers two-module directions of the curriculum. Students can acquire qualification of 2 subjects: English and German language teacher or English and Visual art teacher.
After successful completion of the programme graduates work as English and German language teachers or English and Visual art teachers in schools in Latvia or other EU countries or in their native countries according to the requirements in the respective countries.
